Day 2: Type of Diabetes
When I was a kid, I think they told me I had juvenile onset diabetes, or type 1. My father had adult onset, or type 2. Things aren’t that simple anymore. More and more adults are being diagnosed with type 1 now. The difference has to do with how screwed up your pancreas is. 😁
I’ve read and heard discussions drawing a distinction between the type that no longer produces insulin, and the type that does not use the insulin in the body. Of course, some people have trouble with both problems!
As with most things in life, our attempts at categorization must acknowledge that they are not perfect. The only constant in life is change, and we must be ready and willing to adjust to new information. Just like with technology and children; flexibility is key!
